Great Southern Rail Trail
Great Southern Rail Trail

This 141 kilometre smooth gravel rail trail runs from Nyora to Yarram. From Nyora, it passes through tranquil countryside, crossing the Bass River and passing beside the Hilda Falls. South of Leongatha, it meanders through gently undulating lush dairy farmland, areas of remnant bush and lowland scrub. It climbs from the foothills of Fish Creek to the peak of Mount Hoddle and then down a steep descent through dense forest with magnificent views of Wilsons Promontory on its approach to Foster. The trail then flattens out, passing through Toora, Welshpool, Alberton and finally reaching Yarram. The rail trail includes a 5 kilometre branch that extends from Welshpool to the coast at Port Welshpool and also a 7 kilometre branch from Alberton to Port Albert.
