Surf Beach is a small residential community which spans the isthmus between Sunderland Bay and Newhaven. It fronts the ocean coastline to the south and the shallow mud flats of Swan Bay to the north.
The ocean coastline consists of rocky cliff and large sand dunes covered in vegetation, with long stretches of sandy beach broken up by rock platforms. With big swells from Bass Strait, it's great for experienced surfers to catch some waves. Visitors can also try their hand at beach fishing or explore the rock pools which are exposed at low tide. Access to the beach below is provided at several locations along the coast via walkways and stairs.
At the corner of Phillip Island Road and Dunvegan Crescent is a bottle shop that also sells some basic everyday items. Next to the shop is Ms Dipity's Coffee Van where you can enjoy refreshments and sweets, with a covered seating area provided. Surf Beach Pizza also operates a takeaway food truck on the site, offering a range of standard and gourmet pizzas.
